特立尼达雪茄于1991年推出，专门为卡斯特罗设计作为一种礼物，只赠给重要的客人，除了他，其他古巴高级官员只能赠送Cohiba雪茄，因此更增加了这雪茄的神秘性。但那是1997年之前的事，从1998年起，少量的Trinidad雪茄也开始在国际市场上贩售，每盒24装，与一般的25装有所不同，但有一种是50装，特殊的是，它不选欧洲为上市的第一站而选北美的加拿大与墨西哥这两个国家，另外1996年推出的Cuaba雪茄，选伦敦为第一站，1997年推出的Vegas Robaina而选在马德里作为第一站。Trinidad与1998年4月初露头脸。

特立尼达的来历至今仍是一个谜。传闻古巴领导人卡斯特罗在此品牌创立之后，将其替代科伊巴作为致赠各国首脑的独家礼物。但在1994年夏季《雪茄客》杂志对卡斯特罗的专访中，他否认了上述说法并说自己仍然非常乐意将科伊巴雪茄继续提供给那些酷爱雪茄的亲朋好友。

Trinidad于1991年推出，直到1998年2月20日，在古巴哈瓦那L ibre酒店（即卡斯特罗革命前的希尔顿酒店）的宴会餐，才被正式介绍给世人，在此之前，它始终是一很神秘的雪茄，很多雪茄书都会提到它，但无法拼出一个完整的形象。

事实上，早在1994年10月美国的雪茄壳杂志负责人Marvin R .Shanken(马文.谢安肯)，就曾在巴黎Lauren(罗兰)餐厅举办了一场所谓的世纪晚宴，邀请共享Trinidad雪茄，使这场晚宴增添了神秘性，稀有性。有些雪茄书都提到这场晚宴，但年份几乎都弄错了，当时来自世界上160多位宾客（其中有不少社交名流）参加了世纪晚宴，所享受的三雪茄分别是：Trinidad Fundadores，Cohiba Pyramid, Cohiba"A"（这三雪茄有钱不一定能购买到）。当晚每种雪茄各提供14盒，每盒50，每盒均有卡斯特罗的亲笔签名，供拍卖所得的款项，做为古巴救济金（Medical Relief Fund）
